The winter is now upon us, with our first winter guests staying in Lavachet Lodge, for an October half-term race camp, arriving last Saturday.

At the same time, The FIS World Cup season began in Solden, Austria.
Italian Federica Brignone won her first-ever World Cup victory in the Womens Giant Slalom on Saturday, ahead of Mikaela Shiffrin and Tina Weirathe.
On Sunday Ted Ligety came in first, making this his 25th World Cup win, and 50th podium finish, in a World Cup race, beating Thomas Fanara and the Austrian local Marcel Hirscher.
Solden is traditionally the venue for the first race of the Northern Hemisphere winter season, using the Rettenbach glacier. The course has a particularly steep icy section, which was unfortunately too much for this race official and his crampons!

The next World Cup race is in Levi, Finland on November 15th
